Blake Hall Road Proposed Cycling & Road Safety Improvements

The Council is proposing to introduce cycling and road safety improvements on Blake Hall Road. The proposed improvements are preliminary measures and it is hoped that funding may be secured for future interventions such as improvements to assist pedestrians and cyclists at junctions in the area.

The proposed cycling improvements also include the installation or shared used bus stop boarders at four bus stops on Blake Hall Road. These are sections of the cycle lane that are raised to footway level allowing cyclists to continue unimpeded by stationary buses whilst allowing passengers to access buses for boarding. The proposed cycling improvements are shown on Plan 1.

The proposed road safety improvements include the installation of two raised speed tables, one near the junction with Felstead Road and Selsdon Road, the other installed at the existing signal-controlled crossing facility near the junction with Belgrave Road. These proposals are also shown on Plan 1.

The Metropolitan Police, London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance Services and Transport for London are being consulted on the proposals.

The proposed improvements to cycling facilities on Blake Hall Road are intended to provide a safer facility for cyclists and thus help to encourage cycling in the borough.

Road safety improvements have been proposed due to the occurrence of a number of traffic collisions resulting in injury and because this is a residential area with relatively high levels of pedestrian activity. The main objective of the proposed speed table is to make the road at these locations safer for all vulnerable road users particularly pedestrians. By doing so, this will help reduce vehicular speeds, and improve pedestrian crossing facilities at these locations.
