Centre Road Proposed Cycling & Road Safety Improvements

Closed 20 Aug 2021

Opened 12 Jul 2021

Overview

The Council is proposing to introduce cycling and road safety improvements on Centre Road. The proposed improvements are preliminary measures and it is hoped that funding may be secured for future interventions such as improvements to assist pedestrians and cyclists at junctions in the area.

We are proposing to install a 1.5 metre wide mandatory cycle lane on Centre Road and provide light segregation in the form of cycle lane delineators. The proposed road safety improvements include the speed limit in Centre Road being reduced to “30mph” and the installation of a raised speed table at the existing crossing facility near entrance to the Wanstead Flats car park. These proposals are shown on Plan 1.

The Metropolitan Police, London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance Services and Transport for London are being consulted on the proposals.

The proposed improvements to cycling facilities on Centre Road are intended to provide a safer facility for cyclists and thus help to encourage cycling in the borough.

The main objective of the proposed speed table is to make the road at this location safer for all vulnerable road users particularly pedestrians. By doing so, this will help reduce vehicular speeds, and improve pedestrian crossing facilities at this location.
