New North Road (The Lowe to Romford Road) Road Safety

Closes 9 Dec 2022

Opened 18 Nov 2022

Overview

We are proposing to provide traffic calming in the form of raised speed tables at pedestrian crossing points on New North Road between The Lowe and Romford Road as shown on the plan below. The proposals will require no changes to existing parking controls in the area.

The Metropolitan Police, London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance Services and Transport for London are being consulted on the proposals.

Why make changes?

The main objective of the proposed scheme is to make this area safer for all road users. The road safety measures will help reduce vehicular speeds, improve driver awareness, improve crossing conditions for pedestrians and improve road safety in the area.

Lowering traffic speeds also makes our streets less polluted, and better and safer places to walk and cycle.

There have been nine personal injury collisions including two involving serious injury in the last three year for which data is available on this section of New North Road. Traffic surveys indicate 85%ile traffic speeds (the speed at which 85% of vehicles are travelling at or below) of up to 33 mph at this location.
