Woodford New Road Proposed Cycling Improvements

Closed 20 Aug 2021

Opened 12 Jul 2021

The Council is proposing to introduce cycling and road safety improvements on Woodford New Road. The proposed improvements are preliminary measures and it is hoped that funding may be secured for future interventions such as improvements to assist pedestrians and cyclists at junctions in the area

We are proposing to introduce a 1.5 metres wide mandatory cycle lane providing light segregation in the form of cycle lane delineators. The proposed cycling lane with light segregation also includes the installation of shared used bus stop boarders at two bus stops on Woodford New Road. Provision of the cycle lane will require changes to reduce the width of the pedestrian refuge island on Woodford New Road near its junction with Empress Avenue. The proposed cycle lane proposals are shown on plan 1.

Shared use bus stop boarders are sections of the cycle lane that are raised to footway level allowing cyclists to continue unimpeded by stationary buses whilst allowing passengers to access buses for boarding.

The Metropolitan Police, London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance Services and Transport for London are being consulted on the proposals.

The proposed cycle improvements on Woodford New Road are intended to provide a safer facility for cyclists and thus help to encourage cycling in the borough.
